Memorial Bench

Hi All

a big thank you to Bev for his excellent work on our memorial bench and to the many members that turned up last Sunday, a very moving day and I have heard that the families are very grateful to the Yorkies for making this possible, a special thanks to Malcolm for his words on the day. For those that couldn't make it please take a while to view the bench which is under the bow window in the main building, and remember our friends in the Centre that are sadly not with us now.

This weekend our friends in the Yorkshire Trikers Club are holding a bike show locally and if you fancy a ride please support Bob's Club you will be made very welcome.

Saville Arms Bike and Trike Show 13th March.

For now we hope to see you soon,

Terry

The Most Outstanding Member of 2009....

During the evening at our Dinner/ Dance it's always a pleasure to present the award for "The Most Outstanding Member Of The Year".

This year's winner was Bev Smith who has always been our tail end Charlie on the group rides, and as everyone knows just happens to have a camera with him - well done to Bev.

Closely followed with almost equal votes were Maggi Hadfield and Mick Bryan, both have put a lot of effort in the Yorkies and the Main Club.

Congratulations to you all.

Centre update

Hi Guys

a big thanks to those that supported our dinner / dance last weekend, a donation of £243 is in the kitty for our charity - for the head shave on myself / Barrie / Roger and Sarah - a big thanks to Sandie who, although slightly tippsy, cut our hair with no problem. The committee will choose where the raffle monies will go so I'll let you know the outcome.

We hope you will be able to make the AGM at Hirst Courtney next Tuesday, the usual format and yes all positions in the club are up for election. We have a lot to discuss, with voting, the 2011 rally, next years Cairn event and our summer programme, so please make the effort to attend.

The pictures taken at the Cairn are on http://terry-yorkies950.fotopic.net/ as there are quite a few it will take a while for Steve to transfer these all to the web. If anyone wants a decent size picture to print please let me know and this can be arranged.

There will be photos and a story in The Harrogate Advertiser but as yet these are not on there try google and soon the photos etc. will be on their web site.

Next weekend Sunday 21st there is a Fred Hill memorial ride and our friends in Wakefield Mag will be there. If you want to join this ride we are leaving Squires at 11am and ending at The Sun Inn near Otley. It's a well supported event I know Yorkshire Trikes and other groups will support this. If you fancy blowing the dust off the bike its worth the effort.

Nearer the time I will let all members know of our own special day - on Sunday March 7th at 11am we will be placing the memorial bench to remember our members that have passed away. Familles representing Sue Johnson, Peter Baxter and Paul Stubley have been invited to Squires to be part of this special morning. I hope we can get a good attendance from the Yorkies to support and pay our respects to our fellow friends gone by.

I hope this mail finds you well and we hope to see you very soon, our web site is bang up to date thanks to Steve and all the events / rideouts / past photos are on our web site.

Regards

Terry

Hi Yorkies

The website has now been updated with the 2010 ride out destinations and the new competition for 2010.

The VSOC are running a Landmarks competition more information can be found at 'What's On > Landmarks Comp' or www.5staryorkies.org.uk/content/landmarks_2010.shtml

Update on rally numbers:

  • We have a good number attending Rally in A Chalet in February
  • 22 tickets sold for Phil and Angies Wedding / Jump start (I have tickets for this if you want any)
  • Good number of Yorkies and VSOC going to East Leeds Lions Easter Rally (see Chris or Maggi if you want a ticket)
  • 32 tickets sold to the Yorkies for the London Rally

Great support guys!

All our monies have been paid to companies ie Keycamp for France / travel lodge for Dover and the Cairn for the dinner dance, so its countdown time for these events.

I hope you will be able to make our meetings - next one at Ossett next Tuesday, we can see if the new landlord likes us and we like them !!!!

Sad News from the VSOC

It is with sadness that I have to inform the Centre 5 membership that our friend Graeme “Grum” Hobbs passed away on Friday 1st January 2010 after a battle against illness. He will be sadly missed by his many friends here in the VSOC
Grum joined the VSOC in 1999 and became an active member in Centre 8 although living in Bath at the time. When he moved back to Coventry, he took up the gauntlet and joined the centre 8 committee as their original Merchandiser coming up with many funny Rally T Shirts and along with Roger devising the C8 Celtic Motif they now wear proudly on their jackets. He moved up to the north east which saw him join Centre 4 and become their Rep - attending as many events over the last 12 months when his health allowed.

Further details will be available as I get them.
